High School Reunions

Friday, September 28th, 2007

The sound of a ‘high school reunion’has this cheese factor, at least to most of the ‘cool kids.”  You’ve seen Martin’s high school reunion, and how many other television and movie versions of this experience and it gives us all this preconceived notion that the event will take place a certain way.

I must say Forest Hills must have been a great place to go to school, because the reunion of class of 1997 was absolutley memorable.  It wasnt just seeing old faces and catching up with people, it was the genuine happiness of everyone being together.  It was like being in high school for one more day, but as adults.  It was great to see Shana- who I performed alongside in the school play Miracle Worker.  It was even better to see Shirley Lee who was one of my best friends in elementary.  It was cool to hang out and party with my old crew- Martha, Vanessa, Paola, Cindy and Brenda.  Seeing Susan, Nona, and Sabrina.  Catching up with Christie, Mary, Nicole and Nika.  It was a night that I will never forget because we had so much fun.  So much fun that we went to a bar after, then a club, and then a diner… we didnt want the night to end.

I say this to say, when your high school reunion comes up dont not go because you assume its not worth it, and you dont want to see these people who are no longer your friends, or you think its corny.  Whatever excuse you make, take the chance and go.  You just never know, you may just get to relive those good old times, get a break from your adult responsibilities and remember when you were young and carefree.  If anything it will remind you not to lose yourself and enjoy each day- cause time does fly.

PS 220- Halsey-Forest Hills High… has shaped and molded who I am today.  I have no complaints!!!
