New York Goes To Hollywood

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

As if we believe all this reality television, the new show New York goes to Hollywood is expected to be another hit television show.  Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to reality TV Miss New York is surely the ‘it’ girl and I will admit she is one of my favorite reality leading ladies.  I just liked her spunk since day one, of course she is extra and way over the top, but she is interesting to watch. I wouldnt be mad if she dropped her breast job down a couple of sizes though.  Her past television appearances have brought her an abundance of success, with I Love New York 1 & 2 breaking records in reality television.  Her new show however is all about her, with no 12 men to share the camera time with so let’s hope she can keep us entertained this time around.

The show is documenting her journey to fulfill her goal of becoming an actress, so the cameras will follow her as she tries to take Hollywood by storm.  Rumor has it that George “Tailor Made” Weisgerber has broken up with her since the reunion of I Love New York 2 and the heartbreaking moment will be a highlight on the upcoming show.  We can almost assure her mother will be a co-star on this show as well, and all the small nuances of life will be brought to a dramatic level for the cameras.  It seems kind of scary when you analyze what’s going on with our culture, but she has become popular enough to where America just wants to watch her go through her daily life. Tiffany “New York” Pollard has come along way from home Toto.

Fresh “Princess of Bel-Air”

Will Smith has done it again!  Hancock was a huge success with a $66 million dollars opening weekend, not including the $41.3 million earned between the debut on Tuesday and the weekend.  This is Will’s 5th movie released on the 4th of July weekend, the total of $107.3 million was Will Smith’s best opening.   Congrats Mr. Smith.

“Thought he told you that he won’t stop.”

But while I’m on the topic of Will Smith, I just wanted to take this time to acknowledge how fine this young black man is.

He is in my opinion under the definition of perfection.

He is fine as all possibilities, he’s tall, has a great body and smart and funny.  Another awesome thing about this man, he has never compromised his character.  He has always held himself in a positive light, never let the hip hop game persuade him and he has never acted like a baboon on camera.  He has been a positive role model throughout his career and that says a lot in this day and age.  In addition to all that- he is absolutely fine!

Is Jada lucky or what?     I had a crush on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air since I was like 8 years old; I mean any junior high friend can tell you I used to say I was the Princess of Bel-Air.  Of course I outgrew that crush, but I have still adored this man for all his talents and great looks ever since.  So again- I was just taking the minute to show homage to the greatness known as Will Smith.

(Sorry fellas who didn’t want to hear that)

Therapeutic Night Out: Bogarts Party

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

I am not a club chick typically- meaning I am not the girl that feels a need to go to every club and partake in wild nights in NYC.  Dont get me wrong, I know a night on the town can be fun; but I just cant do the club scene too often.  Quite honestly, I usually have very little patience for the club scene, the touching guys and the sometimes drunk and wanting to be catty girls.  I think the ‘drunk in the club’ look isnt becoming for any lady, nor is the catfighting (although I understand both can happen to the best of them).  SO- I have chosen to minimize my club visits to minimize my chances of dealing with the nonsense that comes with it.  HOWEVER- every now and then a night to just get out, get your dance on, hang with your folks and just enjoy the moment is always therapeutic.  I think its almost very much needed every once in a while.  To faithfully go a few times a week or every weekend I think becomes pretty lame, especially after a certain age (like college) :) .  After a while you have to ask yourself what are you expecting to get from the club and how much of that scene do you need to feel ‘hip’.

The club can be filled with broke guys, chicks who spent their last on the outfit they bought to wear to the club, guys just looking to floss but live with their mothers, baby mama’s who need to be home with their kids and a bunch of other people who is looking to ‘look a certain way- in the club.’    I’d be a lot more impressed with these people if they knew how to stay out of the club, if they could manage to still ‘appear’ like somebody’s out of the club.  When they finally outgrow the club and they end up yelling at the bouncers- screaming ‘Your’e just a doorman’ like in the movie Knocked Up- they’ll finally get it.

I say all that to say I was in the club Friday night!!  LOL  :)

It was more a bar/lounge.  Nice spot.  This was one of my therapeutic nights I was speaking of.  Hadnt been out in quite some time, my girlfriend was in town wanted to get out, me and the mister wasn’t having our best time; a good night out was just what I needed to solve everything.

I was especially happy I went because not only did I support my good friends who promoted the event, but I got to see some of my old co-workers.  I was particularly happy to see Dj Envy, its been a minute that we just talked it up.  We used to talk like everyday about everything.  There are those people in life you just love and respect no matter what- DJ Envy is one of those people for me.  I was glad to see him and Mike Gimmel, and catch up on things.  It was a good night.  Party was cool, no fights, good music, no drama.  We didnt close the club down though.  One of my friends had to drive to Boston in the morning, the other who IS Caribbean said it got too ‘caribbean’ for her.  (Dont ask.)

In the next few months when I decide to surface on the club scene it will hopefully be as worth it as it was at this event.
